So yesterday we talked about who earns what, and of course it’s probably impolite to discuss things like money or religion at the dinner table — no matter how very outrageous some of Hollywood’s biggest stars’ paychecks might be. Which got me wondering — what with a couple of big movies opening tomorrow, one of which is headlined by a MAJOR BREADWINNER — just what would you talk about at the dinner table with some of these folks, if given the chance.

So it dawned on me…Brad Pitt is making a whole lot of noise to promote his new film Inglourious Basterds (directed by Quentin Tarantino) and regardless of the current status their relationship, Angelina is dutifully standing by her man on behalf of the film. So they’re on the go. Then of course we have Jon and Kate Gosselin and who knows what’s happening there but they have to show up some places together (to secure those $1.5 million dollar paychecks). Which brings me to another celeb couple (Jessica Szohr & Ed Westwick) with a lot of heat riding on their show (Gossip Girl) and how it’s in their best interest to show up together, everywhere. People Magazine’s annual list of hottest bachelors hits newsstands today, with Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford gracing the cover. I never considered unmarried 23 year olds like Crawford to be true bachelors –isn’t that a title they give older single guys, like 48 year old George Clooney, for example, or me? I’m not saying that Chace isn’t easy on the eyes, I’m just saying that 23 year olds shouldn’t be thinking about marriage and, therefore, shouldn’t be considered true bachelors. Anwyay…

Blake Lively and Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl

The nominations for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards were announced a couple of days ago. The movies that racked up the most nominations are Twilight (with 12) and High School Musical 3 (with 10), while Gossip Girl dominates the TV categories with 10 nods. Miley Cyrus is up for 10 awards and the Jonas Brothers — who will be hosting the ceremony — are up for 9.

Although I’m too old to vote for the Teen Choice Awards, I will be following the nominations and show with great interest. I love the fact that, like the People’s Choice Awards, the Teen Choice Awards are determined by the fans. And I’ve already admitted to having the pop culture tastes of a teenage girl. I’m already freaking out over whether Leighton Meester or Blake Lively will win Choice TV Actress: Drama.

So I was thrilled when Paramount announced their remake of Footloose. After all, every generation should have their own Ren and Ariel (played by Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer, respectively, back in 1984.)

Zac Effron was originally attached to play the lead in the new film but turned it down to avoid being categorized as the High School Musical song-and-dance man. Now Gossip Girl‘s Chace Crawford has signed on to play Ren, and it’s rumored that Hayden Panettiere is considering the role of Ariel. It won’t come out until 2010, but I’m already wondering when I can buy my tickets. First comes a Fame remake this fall and now Footloose next year. It’s an embarassment of riches! A Flashdance remake can’t be far behind.

The cast of Glee

Please tell me that you stayed tuned to FOX after the final American Idol showdown last night to check out Glee, the latest from Executive Producer Ryan Murphy. Why? It’s simple. Glee is the BEST. SHOW. EVER. I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for a good high school yarn. Murphy’s short-lived Popular remains one of my all time favorites, and I’m still loyal to Gossip Girl and 90210 (both versions.) But Glee is something really special.

Broadway stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele are part of an ensemble cast that includes the wickedly funny Jane Lynch and the always delightful Jessalyn Gilsig. If you didn’t get catch it last night, get thee to Hulu and watch it immediately. And then voice your choice in today’s featured poll about which character is your favorite. I can’t believe we have to wait until fall for episode two.

OMG! When last night’s “Valley Girl” episode of Gossip Girl began with Brittany Snow as a young Lily Rhodes (pre-Van Der Woodsen) driving a convertible through Malibu to the sounds of Missing Persons’ “Destination Unknown,” I knew we were in for a real treat. The 1983 flashbacks of Kelly Rutherford’s Gossip Girl character as an L.A. teen are the beginnings of what will hopefully be a spin off series on The CW this fall. Bring it on! I won’t reveal plot points in case you haven’t seen it yet, but I will say that the show’s music supervisor should be commended for the best selection of ’80s tunes ever: Huey Lewis’ “I Want a New Drug,” The English Beat’s “Mirror in the Bathroom,” Modern English’s “I Melt With You,” Billy Idol’s “Dancing with Myself,” The B-52′s “52 Girls,” New Order’s “Blue Monday,” Men Without Hats’ “Safety Dance,” and Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough” are all featured prominently in the show. There’s reason to set your Tivo right there. Comment below on what ’80s gem(s) you’d like to hear in future episodes.
