Sadly, this news is something time travel cannot fix. Timeless has officially been canceled by NBC, and it’s heartbreaking for fans.

After an epic season 1 finale, which left fans with major cliffhangers and definite hopes of a second season, NBC announced on Wednesday (May 11), that the show will not be renewed for a sophomore season.

This cancelation can most likely be attributed to its viewership. Although the time-travel drama — which starred Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter and Malcolm Barrett — had a loyal group of followers, the numbers just weren’t high enough.

According to TV Line, the show was averaging 4.6 million viewers, which is good, but apparently not good enough. It landed the show at the number six spot for NBC’s dramas this season.

Although this is bad news for Timeless fans, not all hope is lost… at least not yet. Executive producer and co-creator Eric Kripke gave a glimpse of light in this dark situation on Twitter after the news broke.

“Its true. NBC canceled #Timeless. We’re surprised & upset. Get you a longer response later,” he tweeted. “Odds are long, but trying to find another home.”

The odds are definitely slim, but we’re hoping another network does consider taking this show on and giving it a second chance.

Until we know Timeless’ fate, we’ll just be sitting here reading and re-reading Spencer’s words about the cancelation.

“Thank you #Timeless fans for all of your support. An honor & a pleasure,” she tweeted.

No, thank you Abigail, and the rest of the cast, for creating such an amazing show!
