M. Night Shyamalan fans, this is the news you’ve been waiting for! A joint sequel to Unbreakable and Split is officially on the way.
After major box-office success with Shyamalan’s most-recent film, Split, starring James McAvoy, we knew a sequel was bound to happen. What we couldn’t have predicted is that the sequel will also serve as a follow-up to the 2000 film, Unbreakable.
Shyamalan made the joint-sequel announcement with a stream of posts on Twitter today (April 26).
“My new film is the sequel to #Unbreakable AND #Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film,” Shyamalan tweeted.
The door for a combined sequel was left open at the end of Split, when it was revealed (spoiler alert!) that the movie exists in the same universe as Unbreakable.
For once, Shyamalan didn’t keep fans in suspense. In fact, the director went on to reveal some major details about the forthcoming sequel, including the fact that Unbreakable stars Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson will return in the upcoming movie to reprise their roles as David Dunn and Elijah Price/Mr. Glass, respectively.
The combo film will be titled Glass and will also feature Split’s McAvoy and — presumably — his character’s many personalities. Split stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke are also set to return.
This is all definitely a lot to take in, but we are SO happy about it.
“How’s that for not keeping a secret!,” Shyamalan said as he wrapped up his Twitter announcements.
If that’s not enough news, Glass is set to hit theaters on January 18, 2019 worldwide!
