Miley Cyrus‘ cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could be the start of something much bigger.
With blogger Sarah Ruhlman breaking the news during a press event last week that the singer and Voice coach will be making a small appearance in the upcoming movie, Guardians director James Gunn is opening up about what exactly Cyrus’ involvement could mean for the future of the franchise.
In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Gunn said he’s a fan of Cyrus’ voice and wanted to incorporate it somehow into the upcoming movie.
“I was admiring the tone of Miley Cyrus’s voice. I find her funny and likable and sweet. I liked that she cared about the contestants,” James Gunn told BuzzFeed News about her casting. “So I was like, I think she would be a funny person to have as a voice [in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2]. So we contacted her, and she said yes. She came in and recorded, and she was a delight to work with.”
Although her role is small in this film — Cyrus will voice the robot Mainframe — that might all change in the next installment.
“She knows that there’s a chance that character may go on and become a bigger thing,” Gunn explained. “That’s a possibility.”
Last week, Gunn announced that he would be back for the last film in the Guardians franchise — aka Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — that means Cyrus has one last shot at becoming a bigger character.
After all of her work on the Disney Channel and her crazy-cool voice and attitude, we are SO on board with more of her in the final Guardians film.
Now all we need to do is see Cyrus as Mainframe in the second film so we can predict what her character could do in the future.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
