Vin Diesel is a man of his word.
The actor has confirmed that the eighth film in the Fast & Furious, Fate of the Furious (which hits theaters this week), is the beginning of a trilogy.
“The studio always encouraged me to design these films with a trilogy in mind,” Diesel, who plays the leader of the family Dom Toretto, told MySpace. “So, before we went into 8, we had to think about what 9 and 10 would be. That’s just good episodic storytelling.”
Diesel first talked about the possibility of a trilogy to the end Fast & Furious franchise in September 2015 during a Facebook Live chat with fans.
“Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision… they have been like family,” Diesel wrote on Facebook. “I promised the studio I would deliver one last trilogy to end the saga.”
The 49-year-old actor is definitely living up to his promise by acting in and producing a very different story for the eighth film. The Fate of the Furious revolves around his character betraying the family, and we cannot wait to see how everyone deals with it.
As for whether or not the villain of this new film, played by Charlize Theron, will make an appearance in the rest of the trilogy, Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty, isn’t convinced.
“What she does in this movie is unforgivable,” Rodriguez told MySpace. “She puts the ‘B’ in bad.”
While we aren’t a fan of anyone turning Dom against the family, villains have a way of becoming friends or allies in these movies, so only time will tell.
Fate of the Furious hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
