If Harry Styles was looking to make a name outside of One Direction, he’s certainly succeeded with his debut single.

On Friday (April 7), Styles kicked his solo career into high gear by releasing the first single off his upcoming album. While One Direction’s music tends to be unabashedly pop, Styles’ song — the aptly titled “Sign of the Times” — is a ballad that showcases his signature sound, while also establishing him as an artist beyond his boy band roots.

The track already has its share of fans — including Styles’ fellow One Direction members.

“proud of you H,” wrote Liam Payne. “Glad you’re getting to do your own thing,”

Meanwhile, Niall Horan responded to Styles’ tweet announcing the single with a simple, “Love it.”

The biggest fan of Styles’ new music, however, might just be the singer himself. In an interview with Nick Grimshaw on BBC’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show, via Vogue, Styles said that “in the least weird way possible” his new album is his favorite thing to listen to at the moment.

“I think if you put out something that you don’t stand behind and really love… Then if it doesn’t go well then you could regret not doing what you wanted to do,” Styles said.

What do you think of the single?
