Kerry Washington Says She’s Not Sure How Long ‘Scandal’ Will Run

When it comes to the fate of Olivia Pope on Scandal, actress Kerry Washington is keeping tight-lipped. But fans hoping for more intel as to the future of one of DC’s finest can take comfort in the fact that there’s a good reason as to why Washington isn’t spilling the details.

In a brand-new interview with Glamour’s May issue, the actress revealed that she’s not quite sure what the future holds for Scandal because it’s showrunner Shonda Rhimes who really holds the fate of the series, and how long it spans, in her hands.

“It’s not really up to me,” said Washington of how long the show could run. “It’s up to Shonda and to the network. Shonda has said from the beginning that she kind of knows how it ends. So I’m trusting her to guide the arc.”

For now, fans worried about the fate of Scandal can rest easy in knowing that the series has officially been renewed for a seventh season, and we’re sure it’ll be one of the series most thrilling yet. And of course, there’s also the rest of season 6 to look forward to.

Later on in the interview, Washington teased that as the season progresses, fans will see Olivia learning a very important lesson.

“[She’ll be] on a journey of discovering what it means to be in power, not just power-adjacent,” Washington told Glamour.

It definitely sounds as though Olivia’s set to go through some major character growth, and we can’t wait to watch that unfold on screen!
