‘Outlander’ Fans Will Not Be Happy About This News

Bad news, Sassenachs, it looks like the dreaded Droughtlander is set to last just a little bit longer this year.

Starz announced Wednesday (Feb. 15) that Outlander season 3 won’t be returning until September of this year. That’s a bit of a long wait for fans— especially considering the first two seasons of the series premiered in the spring.

As sad as it is to hear that we’ll have to wait just a bit longer to get our fix of Jamie and Claire, the network has a really good reason for pushing the season premiere back.

In a statement announcing the premiere of season 3, Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik revealed that pushing the season back will ensure that everyone involved with brining Outlander to life will have the time they need to make sure they deliver the best possible version of the show they can.

“While Droughtlander will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety,” said Zlotnik. “The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible.”

We can’t argue with that reasoning, and at the end of the day, it’s comforting to know that everyone involved with Outlander cares so much about bringing the story to life the right way.

Guess we’ll just have to console ourselves by rewatching seasons 1 and 2 until new episodes premiere!

Outlander returns to Starz for season 3 in September 2017.
