It’s actually happening — Nina Dobrev is returning to The Vampire Diaries.

The actress — who played Elena Gilbert on The CW drama for six seasons before departing in 2015 — announced her return via Instagram on Thursday (Jan. 26).

“I know it’s Thursday, but this is not a TBT,” Dobrev wrote along with a photo of a new TVD script. She hashtagged the pic #backonset and #tvdforever.

Though Dobrev didn’t specify how many episodes she’ll appear in, the script in her photo is for episode 816 aka the series finale.

Since it was announced last year that The Vampire Diaries would be ending with season 8, fans have been clamoring for Dobrev to come back and wrap up Elena’s storyline in Mystic Falls. When we last saw her, Elena was cursed with a sleeping spell — with the condition that awaking her would result in the death of Bonnie (Kat Graham).

During TCA in August, The CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed that talks were underway to bring Dobrev back for the series’ final bow. However, he also stressed that series creator Julie Plec had an alternate plan in place in case the deal didn’t work out.

“Hopefully she’ll be back,” Pedowitz said about Dobrev, “But should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”

Plec, who is writing the finale with co-series creator Kevin Williamson, has also said many times that she hoped to get Dobrev back to end the show.

Looks like everyone is getting their wish — especially the fans.
