Arrow fans know that Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett) has been through a LOT on the series and that isn’t changing any time soon.

She’s had a lot of highs and lows on The CW hero show, including being a tech genius, becoming Green Arrow’s right hand man, getting shot, losing people close to her, and more.

After season 5’s fall finale, it became clear to fans that Felicity’s troubles were far from over. Now, Arrow’s executive producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed that the events of the finale will push Felicity into a darker phase in the second half of the season.

During The CW’s Television Critics Association presentation last week, Guggenheim said Felicity will be turning to someone for help to bring down Prometheus.

“As with all things Arrow, it’s not initially what you think it is and it will ultimately relate to the overall season theme of legacy, but in this case something very specific to Felicity,” Guggenheim revealed at TCA as reported by Collider.

The EP also revealed that though the storyline will be “edgier,” it will still be in line with Felicity’s character.

“This is something I was talking to the writers about in the writers’ room — Felicity is a wonderful character because she brings some light into the show,” Guggenheim explained via Collider. “So it’s a darker — it’s an edgier story for Felicity, but at the same time, it’s still Felicity. You want to keep the character.”

Okay, so Felicity is definitely going dark and edgy when Arrow returns, but at least she won’t be unrecognizable as a character.

What do you think about Felicity channeling her dark side? Will it work?

Arrow returns to The CW on January 25, 2017.
