According to IGN, Stroma said that he won’t be making an appearance on the next season of Game of Thrones at a press event for ABC’s upcoming Time After Time series at the 2017 winter TV Critics Association earlier this month.
Stroma, who stars as H.G. Wells in Time After Time, revealed that he wasn’t able to partake in another season of the hit HBO series because of scheduling conflicts with his new show.
“I was shooting this, so my character, I wouldn’t be able to go back now,” explained Stroma as reported by IGN. “It was still fun. I got to be in that world. I’ve watched all of [Game of Thrones]. It’s just an incredible TV show.”
While Stroma himself won’t be reprising his role as Dickon, there’s still a possibility we’ll see Samwell’s younger brother once more. In fact, Game of Thrones fan site, Watchers on the Wall, recently reported that the role of Dickon had been recast for season 7. The report also reveals that the series had cast Black Sails star Tom Hopper in the role of Sam’s younger brother.
While HBO has yet to comment on the report, we can definitely see why they’d want to incorporate Sam’s younger brother into his story arc come next season.
Last year, we got a taste of what Sam’s life was like growing up. Now that Sam has found the courage to stick up for himself. We wouldn’t be opposed to seeing more run-ins between Sam and his family in the future— especially since it makes for such an interesting dynamic on screen!
Game of Thrones returns to HBO in the summer of 2017.
