Good news and bad news, Charmed fans. First, the good news: A reboot of the show is 100 percent in the works and will be set in the 1970s. But the bad news is it won’t have anything to do with the previous 178 episodes we’ve obsessed over and re-watched multiple times since 2006.

While speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour recently, CW’s President Mark Pedowitz told reporters that the Charmed reboot will be a stand alone seemingly having nothing to do with the Halliwall sisters.

“At this point, it is a self-contained, self-sustained show. There is the power of three element in there, but at this time, it is a very standalone show,” said Pedowitz, as reported by TVLine.

When the reboot was first announced earlier this year, (Jan. 5) a description of the show explained that the new timeline will be a quasi-prequel to Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) and later, Paige’s (Rose Mcgowan) days, taking place four decades before they started fighting demons and warlocks. But there are some big storyline changes to be aware of. The new show will center around three new witches who are brought together to fight evil in a small New England town, not three biological sisters in the San Francisco area.

The reboot is still in its pilot-script stage with Jennie Snyder Urman, executive producer on Jane The Virgin, helming the project.
