Sofia Vergara just won her first ever People’s Choice Award and it was in the category of Favorite Comedic TV Actress.
Vergara is know for playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC’s hit comedy Modern Family, a role she’s mastered since being cast in since 2009. Out of five nominations in the category in years past, this is Sofia’s first win!
“Never in a million years I thought with this ridiculous accent I thought I was going to be a part of something successful, something so loved and that’s Modern Family,” said Vergara upon accepting the award from Johnny Galecki and Jordana Brewster.
The Colombian-born beauty has been playing the loud, lovable and sometimes downright crazy Gloria since the show’s first episode, casted by Jeff Greenberg, Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd.
Since 2009, Vergara has not only solidified her role as an amazing primetime mom, she’s scored endorsement deals with Covergirl, Head & Shoulders, Diet Pepsi and more. She’s also won four Screen Actor’s Guild Awards since 2011 for the role. In 2016, Vergara was named the highest paid actress in primetime television.
Above all else, Vergara seemed thankful for the award, humbled by the recognition and optimistic for what this win would mean for other Latin America actors in the future.
“It has opened so many doors for Latin actors,” Vergara continued in her speech. She finished off her acknowledgements by telling directors and producers to “keep opening doors because we will not disappoint you!”
