‘The Vampire Diaries’ Boss Says Series Finale Could Feature Time Jump, Crossover

Heads up, Vampire Diaries fans! Julie Plec just dropped some major scoop about what we can expect from the final homestretch of the season!

The showrunner took some time to field fan question via Twitter on Wednesday (Jan. 11), and while she couldn’t answer some of our most burning questions, she did give us tons to think about with regards to what’s coming up on TVD.

One of the most interesting tidbits Plec left us with was the idea that we could expect to see a time jump happen in the finale. When a fan asked the showrunner about the possibility of using that as a plot device, Plec replied with, “That part isn’t written yet, but I think so.”

Up next, Plec reminded us all that despite hoping that Nina Dobrev will return for the series finale, nothing’s set in stone yet.

“I cannot say,” tweeted Plec when a fan asked whether or not Dobrev, who left the series in 2015, will be making an appearance.

Despite the fact that no decision has been reached over whether or not Dobrev will physically return to reprise her role as Elena one last time, fans can take comfort in the fact that she and Plec are clearly still pals! When another fan asked if she’d been in contact with the actress, the showrunner revealed she’d actually seen her at a Golden Globes after party over the weekend!

Fans of Tyler Lockwood also got an extra dose of reassurance as well when Plec promised that we’d get to see our favorite werewolf (played by actor Michael Trevino) again.

Finally, Plec capped things off by replying to a fan who asked her to describe what it’s been like to work on The Vampire Diaries for the past eight years.

“Epic, of course!” said Plec simply.

We think we speak for all Vampire Diaries fans that experiencing the journey has been just as epic for us!

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
