Luke Cage may be the newest Marvel series to hit Netflix, but it’s already climbed the ranks as one of our favorites.
Unfortunately, now that we’ve zoomed through the entire first season, it’s becoming more and more apparent that we’ll have to wait quite a bit for season 2 to hit the online streaming platform. Netflix recently announced in that Luke Cage season 2 was “coming soon,” but that doesn’t give us much to go off of with regards to when we can expect the series to return.
The good news is, that means we’ve got plenty of time to brush up on all of the biggest Luke Cage news while we wait, and to kick things off, we’ve scoured the internet to bring you five of the biggest scoops with regards to the second season.
Read on to find out what we know about Luke Cage season 2 so far!
1. There’s a possibility we’ll see the Heroes for Hire storyline.
Fans might have been disappointed that Luke Cage and Iron Fist didn’t team up to form their signature business venture which offers investigative and protective services in season one, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see the story arc take place in the future.
According to Slashfilm, showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker wanted season 1 to focus on “the evolution of a hero,” As for the possibility of Heroes for Hire making an appearance in season 2, Hodari simply said, “Netflix has to order a second season first.”
Now that it’s officially been greenlit, we’re hoping Hodari circles back to the idea!
2. There was a subtle nod to how Iron Fist could fit into things later.
The season finale of Luke Cage left fans wanting more— especially after the subtle nod to none other than Iron Fist. The moment came after we see Claire Temple, who’s thinking about getting some martial arts training, take a number from a street flyer advertising lessons from none other than Colleen Wing. For her part, Colleen Wing is a known ally of Iron Fist, whom she met when he first traveled to Asia in an effort to avenge his father’s death.
As CinemaBlend points out, it definitely looks as though Colleen Wing might be the key to figuring out just how Iron Fist and Luke Cage will end up meeting.
3. There’s a certain Shadowhunters star who’s really hoping to score a role in season 2.
While there isn’t much casting news surrounding season 2 yet, that hasn’t stopped one actor in particular from championing for a role on Luke Cage! In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Shadowhunters star Isaiah Mustafa revealed that he’d love to join the Luke Cage family.
“I’d play anything on that,” said Mustafa. “I just love the characters so much that I really just want to be a part of it in some way.”
4. A Kingpin appearance could be a possibility.
The famed mob boss might not have made a physical appearance in the first season of Luke Cage, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t get excited over the mention of Wilson Fisk (AKA Kingpin) during Mariah Dillard’s warning to Cottonmouth. Kingpin might have lost the battle against Daredevil and ended up in jail, but something tells us he won’t be in the slammer for long and the jury’s still out as to which of Netflix’s marvel series the villain will pop up in next. In fact, according to ComicBookMovie.com, actor Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin on screen, recently revealed that he’s down to reprise his role in any of Netflix’s marvel imprints.
“There’s no giant commitment for me at Daredevil. Like I didn’t have to sign my life away at all,” said D’Onofrio. “When Jeff [Loeb] tells me there’s something coming up and if I’m available, I’ll be there. And because it’s written so well, I’m going to show up. I’m going to do everything I can because the writing is so good.”
5. Season 2 is coming soon and Netflix celebrated by treating fans to a mini teaser.
While the short clip announcing Luke Cage season 2 didn’t give us too much to work off of with regards to theorizing what might come next, it did give us a glimpse to an all too familiar setting! Released via Twitter, the short teaser features a close up of Pop’s Barber Shop, which fans will undoubtedly recognize as the place Luke Cage starts working at after returning to Harlem.
