Get excited, Gilmore Girls fans! Alexis Bledel is coming back to TV sooner than we expected. The 35-year-old actress has officially signed on for a new Hulu series, and we’re pretty excited about it.
According to Variety, Bledel is set to star in the streaming service’s new dystopian drama, The Handmaid’s Tale.
Bledel will be joining Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Samira Wiley and Yvonne Strahovski, who are all already part of the upcoming show’s cast.
The Handmaid’s Tale is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel by the same name and was given a straight-to-series order for 10 episodes by Hulu in April.
The show follows a handmaid named Offred played by Moss, who is forced to repopulate the male-dominated society she is a part of. The publication reported that Bledel will play Ofglen, who is a fellow handmaid and Offred’s close friend.
Although this isn’t new Gilmore Girls news, it is great for fans of Bledel, which we definitely are. Plus, the series is already filming in Toronto, so if Gilmore Girls does get another group of episodes in the future it (hopefully) wouldn’t interfere with this role at all!
Will you be tuning into Hulu’s new series? What do you think about Bledel playing a handmaid? We think she’s going to nail it.
The Handmaid’s Tale is set to premiere on April 26, 2017 on Hulu.
