Facebook is officially getting into the original video content game!

The social media network revealed on Wednesday (Dec. 13) that it’s currently in the process of reaching out to video producers big and small with regards to buying original video content that would work well with the website.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Facebook has tapped CollegeHumor co-founder Ricky Van Veen to spearhead the endeavor as the social network’s head of global creative strategy.

In a statement announcing the their new video strategy, Van Even revealed that Facebook plans to use funding to bulk up the network’s new video tab on the mobile app with both scripted and unscripted video content.

“Our goal is to kickstart an ecosystem of partner content for the tab, so we’re exploring funding some seed video content, including original and licensed scripted, unscripted, and sports content, that takes advantage of mobile and the social interaction unique to Facebook,” said Van Veen. “Our goal is to show people what is possible on the platform and learn as we continue to work with video partners around the world.”

There’s no word yet on which companies Facebook is approaching with regards to the new video content they’ll soon be hosting, but we’ll definitely be looking forward to seeing what they’ve got in store for everyone when they eventually roll it out!
