On Wednesday, Warner Bros. Pictures finally released the full-length trailer for Dunkirk aka Harry Styles’ debut movie.
Dunkirk centers around World War II and focuses on the British evacuation of Dunkirk, France in 1940. It’s everything you could want from a Christopher Nolan war movie, with a One Direction singer thrown in for good measure.
The trailer begins with papers flying from the sky onto soldiers that read, “We surround you,” which is instantly haunting. One British lieutenant reveals that the tanks have stopped because the Germans no longer need them to pick them off by land… they have airplanes.
“There are 400,000 men on this beach,” another officer says as we get a look at all the soldiers standing on the beaches of France, defenseless. Just then a plane flies over and begins to shoot as everyone drops for cover.
In an interesting spin, one solider takes off his helmet and walks straight into the ocean.
“The event that shaped our world,” the screen reads before more planes attack, giving off an ominous feeling. Then the solider who swam away is saved and pulled onto a ship flying the British flag, but they’re going back to Dunkirk. He doesn’t want to go back, but they have a job to do the captain explains.
Next we see more fighting, and the soldiers, including Styles’ character Tommy, just trying to survive on the beaches and in open water, hoping the end of the battle is coming soon.
“Hope is a weapon,” the trailer reads. “Survival is victory.” Ah, we just got chills!
The movie looks powerful and intense, and it feels even more haunting because you know the story of World War II.
Dunkirk hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
