Sunday night was about more than just football on NBC, it was also about being fast and oh, so furious!
During the Sunday Night Football broadcast, we got our first look at the eighth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious, and there was a LOT of action and some major betrayal.
The eighth film reunites Fast & Furious favorites, Dominic “Dom” Toretto (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock’ Johnson) and more within the first few seconds of the trailer.
As the trailer begins the crew we know and love is seen escaping bad guys in their fast cars (pummeling through walls and driving extremely fast might we add) when Dom brings in the big guns, aka a giant wrecking ball and saves everyone.
Then suddenly we hear a woman’s voice saying, “You know what I like about you, Dom? You’re a genuine outlaw. But your family is about to go up against the one thing they can’t handle… you.”
You then see Dom take out Hobbs as the movie’s new villain reveals herself. It’s Cipher, a high-tech terrorist, played by Charlize Theron and she’s somehow convinced Dom to turn on his family and it’s something we never saw coming.
As the trailer continues, the crew, including Dom’s now wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), try to figure out what made Dom turn, while pledging to stop him and his new villainous boss in the process. To be able to compete with Dom, they need all hands on deck including, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to fight, and hopefully win, against their once fearless leader.
They don’t know what Cipher is up to, or why she needs Dom to dabble in this world of hard crimes, but they vow to put a stop to it.
Throughout the teaser we also see a lot of action sequences, drama, explosions and car racing, because it’s a Fast & Furious movie, duh.
At the end of the trailer, Dom bursts into a lab-like room and knocks out part of his old family. Letty looks up from the ground and asks, “Dom, you’re going to turn your back on family?” It seems like the answer might be yes.
Why so evil, Dom? Why?
The Fate of the Furious hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
