Fans clamoring for more of HBO’s Westworld after Sunday (Dec. 4) night’s big season finale will have quite a long wait before the hit sci-fi series returns to television screens.
In a recent interview with Vulture, HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, revealed that viewers may have to wait until 2018 before they’re able to experience brand-new episodes of the series.
So what’s the reason behind the delay? As Bloys explained to Vulture, HBO wants to make sure the team behind Westworld has both the time and the money it needs to bring the story to life.
“I think it’ll probably [return] in 2018,” said Bloys. “I’d like to get it on as soon as possible, but for a show of this scope, the most important thing is getting the best version of the show on the air. If it takes some time, we’ll take some time.”
Based off of Michael Crichton’s 1973 film, the series centers around a futuristic theme park modeled after the Wild West where humans can interact with artificial beings as they live out their deepest fantasies.
Given the effort that goes into bringing Westworld to life, it’s not hard to imagine why HBO may need to give the showrunners are bit more time when it comes to crafting the second season.
As much as we hate the fact that we’ll have to wait over a year for new episodes, it’s definitely nice to know that everyone involved is committed to putting out the best version of season 2 they can. And we’ll definitely be ready to consume new episode whenever they decide to release them!
