Rogue One: A Star Wars Story isn’t even out yet, but we already know that there will never be a sequel.
In an interview with Empire Magazine via Slash Film, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said there will not be a follow-up to Rogue One, which she jokingly calls Rogue Two.
Visual effects artist John Knoll explained that Rogue One was meant to be a “self-contained” film, even though it is technically a prequel to A New Hope.
Even the film’s director, Gareth Edwards, hopped into the conversation and shot down any possibility of a Rogue Two.
“That sequel will be directed by George Lucas,” Edwards reportedly told Empire, while referencing Star Wars: Episode IV.
Sadly, it’s clear that no matter fans think of the upcoming film, their love and admiration will not make the film’s team change their minds about creating another movie with the same characters and themes.
Don’t freak out though, because you haven’t even seen Rogue One yet, so let’s not harp on the lack of a Rogue Two.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theater on December 16.
