While we were celebrating the best in current music at the American Music Awards last night (Nov. 20), Drake enjoyed a mini blast from the past.
Out of 13 nominations, Drake won his first American Music Award of the evening for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. Actress Nina Dobrev and Dancing with the Stars judge Julianne Hough were the presenters on hand for Drake’s first award and when he went up to accept, the Canadian rapper made sure to give a nod to his friend and former Degrassi co-star, Nina.
“Thank you very much,” said Drizzy behind rose-colored shades when accepting his award.
“Me and Nina were on Degrassi together, by the way. Congratulations on all your success,” he said as the camera panned to a proud Nina.
Dobrev kept the nostalgia going by posting a congratulatory pic of her and Drake on her Instagram that same night, which she hashtagged with #DegrassiForever.”
Drake a.k.a. Aubrey Graham played Jimmy Brooks for seven seasons from 2001 to 2008. Dobrev joined the cast of the teen drama from 2006 to 2009 playing teen mother and part-time model Mia Jones. These characters were the first major roles for the child actors. Look how far they’ve come.
Drake would go on to make a clean sweep in two more major categories last night, Favorite Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite R&B/Soul Song for “Hotline Bling.”
