Wow, this is major news! Legendary actor Robert Redford is retiring from acting.

The longtime actor, who is best known for films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, is ready to step away from the screen, but don’t get too sad, he’s just ready to relax — sort of.

The 80-year-old actor revealed his plan to retire from acting at the Walk Art Center (via Vulture) during a conversation that also included his grandson sitting by his side. Although he does intend to walk away from the Hollywood acting lifestyle, Redford explained that it will not happen until he has completed two projects that he already has in the works.

After the two projects are done Redford said, “Then I’m going to say, ‘Okay, that’s good-bye to all that.'”

Both Old Man With a Gun, with Casey Affleck and Sissy Spacek, and Our Souls at Night, co-starring Jane Fonda will be Redford’s final bow in his acting career and it will definitely be bittersweet watching those hit theaters.

“I’m getting tired of acting. I’m an impatient person, so it’s hard for me to sit around and do take after take after take,” he explained.

Luckily he didn’t say anything about leaving his post behind the camera and will continue to focus on his directing and producing duties — thank goodness.

While Redford isn’t completely leaving the film world, he will be missed in front of the camera for sure. Happy trails my friend, happy trails.
