If you’re a hardcore Harry Potter fan, chances are you’ve been pouring over every Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailer as you wait for the film to hit theaters. But there’s at least one major moment from the preview that didn’t make it into the movie.
The moment in question occurs in the theatrical trailer released back in July just as Newt is in the midst of having a face-off with a troop of No-maj police officers.
When asked about the cut scene, Redmayne explained that the thing about working on big movies like Fantastic Beasts, is that there’s more of a rush to get trailers out before the film has been edited and special effects have been added in. At the end of the day, this means there are things that inevitably get left on the cutting room floor.
“That was a moment as the film builds, and as it kind of crescendoed to this quite hardcore action sequence toward the end, and everything got quite serious. In the script, it was something that read as kind of a moment like, ‘Don’t panic!’” revealed Redmayne. “I think when it got to the cut, [it was] tonally wrong to have the moment because actually, the stakes are too high for [Newt] to have a time out moment.”
Despite the fact that there are moments like this one that won’t make it to the final cut of Fantastic Beasts, we’re hoping that just means that we’ll get more fun bonus content when the film eventually makes its way on to DVD!
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on Nov. 18.
