Nathan Sykes may have risen to fame as part of the five-piece Brit band The Wanted, but now, the 23-year-old is ready to step out on his own.
Sykes is gearing up to launch his first solo album this month, and the singer recently sat down with Teen Vogue to talk about the process of hopping in the studio to work on his own material.
“It was honestly just the most incredible experience. And I’ll forever be grateful for the last two years [when I was making the album],” revealed Sykes.
“When I started writing the album, I didn’t know I thought. I didn’t even know what genre of music I’d want to make, especially coming from a boy band,” explained Sykes. “But, I knew myself as one piece of a five-piece boy band— which is great! [And] I’d written a few songs for The Wanted.”
While Sykes went on to say that he was happy the songs he’d written for The Wanted were good enough to become hit singles, working on his own music has been incredibly satisfying in a completely different way.
“It was…obviously a massive compliment that [the songs] became singles, [but] getting to know myself as a songwriter and an artist, has just been twice as great and amazing,” said Sykes.
Hearing Sykes open up about the journey to becoming a solo artist definitely has us even more excited to check out his new album!
