Tom Cruise finally addressed those pesky rumors about Top Gun 2 and you might not be happy with his answer.
While promoting his latest movie, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, on The Graham Norton Show, Cruise was asked about the latest on Top Gun 2, which has been rumored to be happening for quite some time now. Cruise, who is known for his iconic role as Maverick in the 1986 fighter pilot flick, revealed that he’s not exactly jumping at the chance to play that role again – at least not anytime soon.
After being asked if a sequel is in fact in the works, Cruise simply answered, “No.”
No? Why not, Tom? Why?
Although there has been hype surrounding a sequel since 2014, when The Jungle Book writer Justin Marks was reportedly hired to write the script for the film, Cruise didn’t give into Norton’s questions.
In fact, even after Norton showed Cruise a Twitter photo of the 54-year-old actor and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, which read, “Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss Top Gun 2,” Cruise was hesitant to give a straight answer.
“Yes, we’re discussing it,” Cruise said after seeing the photo that Bruckheimer posted in January 2016. “We’re discussing it. We’re trying to figure it out.”
Okay, so although that’s clearly not a “yes” like we all wanted, it was a little bit more optimistic than Cruise’s first hard “no” response, so we’ll take it.
You can see Cruise in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in theaters now.
