Jurassic World may have been full of twists and turns, but according to Jurassic World 2 director J.A. Bayona, fans should expect the sequel to the 2015 blockbuster to be much darker.

According to ComingSoon.net, the director opened up about the second installment in a Spanish language interview with EFE, likening it to a few other famous sequels of a similar calibre.

“It will be darker and scarier than the previous film.” Bayonne told EFE. “It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always darker, just like in The Empire Strikes Back or The Wrath of Kahn, those are the examples that are always given.”

Despite the dark tone that awaits moviegoers who head out to see Jurassic World 2 in 2018, Bayona also promised that the film will pack its share of fun moments.

“Obviously, when you have Chris Pratt, it will also be very funny, but it will be much darker,” promised the director.

The plot of Jurassic World 2 is being kept firmly under wraps for now, but one thing we do know is that the film is set to start production in Hawaii and London in February 2017. Here’s hoping we get a few more details as the cast and crew head into shooting the highly anticipated sequel!

Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World 2 is set to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
