The X-Men alum plays Callum Lynch, a man who comes from an extraordinary bloodline, in the upcoming adaptation of the popular video game. Despite being a direct descendant of the Assassin’s Creed, the trailer gives off the vibe that Callum has no idea of the importance of his bloodline until he finds himself at the mercy of an organization that allows him to unlock the secrets of his ancestors.
“You’re about to enter the Animus. What you see, hear, and feel, are the memories of your ancestor, who’s been dead for 500 years,” says Dr. Sophia Rikkin the first time Callum finds himself plunged into the past through the help of a virtual reality machine developed by Abstergo Industries. “Welcome to the Spanish Inquisition.”
From there, we get a great first look at Cal’s first experience as his ancestor, Aguilar, who existed in 15th century Spain.
Cal may be picking up Aguilar’s skills through virtual reality, but he soon discovers the events that occur when he enters the Animus are more real than he ever thought possible. He’ll have to learn everything he can from Aguilar if he stands any chance at all of squaring off against an oppressive and incredibly powerful Templar organization wreaking havoc in the present day.
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters Dec. 21, 2016.
