‘Doctor Strange’ Will Be ‘Darker’ Than Other Marvel Movies, According To Director

When superhero fans hit theaters to experience Doctor Strange, director Scott Derrickson says they’ll witness Marvel’s darkest tale to date.

Derrickson took to Reddit on Tuesday (Oct. 12) for a Q&A, where one fan asked about whether or not his horror movie background influenced Doctor Strange.

“There is no straight horror in the movie, but it is a bit darker and more serious than other Marvel movies,” wrote Derrickson.

Despite the fact that Derrickson fans shouldn’t come into the film expecting to be spooked, the director did reveal that there is one small similarity between Doctor Strange and his previous films.

“I think the connection between my horror films and this film is the balance of the supernatural/fantastical with very realistic, grounded characters,” said Derrickson.

It definitely sounds as though working on films like Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose served as a training ground for Derrickson to work his way up to helming one of the most highly anticipated superhero flicks of the year.

We’re definitely looking forward to jumping into Doctor Strange’s world when the film hits theaters next month!

Staring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton, Doctor Strange premieres Nov. 4.
