Fox’s Gotham may exist in the world of DC comics, but actor Ben McKenzie thinks crossing over with other DC comics television shows could be a bit tricky.

McKenzie, who plays a young Detective Jim Gordon on the Fox drama, recently participated in a Reddit AMA where he answered an interesting fan question about whether or not he could ever see Gotham doing a crossover special with any of the CW’s DC shows.

Unfortunately, as much as we’d love to see Gordon team up with some of our favorites from The Flash, Arrow, and more, McKenzie said a crossover would be easier said than done.

“Hard to do,” replied McKenzie. “We are an origin story and they take place in present day.”

We can’t argue with him there! Even so, McKenzie did offer up one brilliant solution as to how Fox and the CW could potentially make a crossover happen.

“Maybe with legends of yesterday?” joked McKenzie, making reference to The CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Given that time travel plays a role in the series which brings together a rag tag group of heroes and villains who must team up to save the world, we can totally see where McKenzie is going with this suggestion.

Here’s hoping his throwaway suggestion reaches the ears of the higher ups at Fox and The CW!

Gotham season 3 premieres on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
