It looks like Zayn Malik is about to take his career in a brand-new Direction.

Variety reports that the former One Direction member is working with NBC to develop a scripted series inspired by his experiences in the famous British boyband.

Titled Boys, the show is set to follow a fictional boyband from before scoring their first record deal through the trials and tribulations that come with becoming a global phenomenon.

NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke commented on the upcoming series, saying that the network is excited to jump in on the project, with producers Dick and Noelle Wolf, and Sherri Cooper Landsman and Jennifer Levin (creators of The CW’s Beauty and the Beast) who will be tasked with writing the script.

“Zayn certainly brings an authentic point of view to this world where kids are catapulted into fame at a dizzying speed,” said Salke, as reported by Variety . “On top of our excitement around the creative ideas being discussed, we have a lot of respect for the musical and digital ambitions behind the project.”

Viewers can reportedly expect music to play a key role on Boys, so we’ll definitely be interested to see if Zayn does any song writing for the show as well.

There’s no word yet on when we can expect Boys to hit televise screens, but we’ll definitely be keeping tabs on it as it moves further and further into development!
