A Dog’s Purpose finds Josh Gad playing multiple reincarnations of man’s best friend and now, you can see the touching new trailer for the upcoming film.

Based on the novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose features the Frozen star voicing the internal thoughts of quite a few canines. When he lives his full life in the body of one dog, Gad is reincarnated as a new puppy, only to begin his life all over again with brand new owners.

It’s apparent from the trailer that Dog learns a new lesson through each life he lives, but no matter how many different humans he calls his own, his first is one that seems to stick with him forever.

“For me, it all began with a boy. His name was Ethan,” he recalls of his first life when he was a golden retriever named Bailey.

From there, we follow Dog’s life as a German shepherd in the police department’s K-9 division, a corgi, and more.

Throughout the course of the trailer, the curious canine asks the important questions like, “was there a point to this journey? And how did bacon fit in?”

Given the heartfelt trailer, we definitely think we’ll be bringing the tissues with us when we head out to see A Dog’s Purpose!

Also starring Britt Robertson, Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, and Juliet Rylance, A Dog’s Purpose hits theaters on January 27, 2017.
