The biggest stars in music took over New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday night (Aug 28) for the 2016 VMAs

Check out what you missed or relive some of the best parts from the show with our recap of the greatest (and most fun!) moments from the night.
1. Rihanna slays all four of her VMA performances.
What’s better than one Rihanna performance? Four Rihanna performances! The singer took the stage multiple times throughout the night to treat us with show-stopping performances featuring some of her greatest hits including, “Don’t Stop The Music,” “Only Girl In The World,” “Work,” and more. Watching RiRi work the stage is all the proof we need to know she’s more than worthy of being this year’s Vanguard Award recipient!
2. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj hit the stage together.
Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj had us all breaking a sweat with their workout-inspired performance of “Side To Side.” Talk about a fitness class we’d love to sign up for!
3. Nick Jonas serenades diner go-ers with “Bacon.”
The “Close” singer took over New York City’s Tick Tock diner to perform his new single, “Bacon.” We even spotted some of Jonas’ famous pals, including DNCE (with brother Joe Jonas) and supermodel Ashley Graham among the diner goers! It’s safe to say the Nick’s performance left everyone wanting a second helping.
4. Michael Phelps reveals what he was really listening to when this year’s infamous Olympic meme was born!
Swimmer Michael Phelps’ angry expression just before a race at this year’s Olympics was the face that launched a thousand memes! Since the gold medalist’s expression went viral, we’ve all been dying to know what he was listening to when the expression was caught on camera and now, we know it was Future’s “Stick Talk.” The swimmer revealed this fun little tidbit while introducing the rapper’s performance at this year’s VMAs. We might have to take a page out of Phelps’ book and blast a bit of Future the next time we need to put our game faces on!
5. Beyonce serves up a must-see Lemonade medley.
Queen Bey graced us all with her presence at this year’s VMAs where she treated everyone with an incredible performance of some of the biggest tracks off her Lemonade album. There’s no question her performance will go down in VMAs history!
6. Britney makes her grand return.
Britney Spears took the VMAs stage for the first time since 2007 to perform her latest single, “Make Me…” alongside rapper, G-Eazy. The pop princess and the rapper tore up the stage, mashing their hit single up with Bebe Rex’s “Me, Myself & I.” We may have had to wait nearly a decade for BritBrit to make her grand return to the VMAs, but it was definitely worth it!
7. Beyonce takes home the Video of the Year award.
Queen Bey took home the coveted Video of the Year award this year for her stunning “Formation” music video. As if receiving the huge honor wasn’t enough, Bey now joins Eminem and Rihanna as one of only three artists who have won the coveted award multiple times.
8. Drake presents Rihanna with the Vanguard Award.
Rihanna was this year’s recipient of the Vanguard Award and fittingly, her frequent collaborator Drake was the one to present the “Work” singer with the special award. The “Hotline Bling” singer delivered a touching speech in RiRi’s honor where he praised the singer’s originality, and revealed that he’s “looked up to her” since he met her while she was filming her iconic “Pon De Replay” music video.
