A brand-new crop of images from Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast have just emerged and they’re giving us a great first look at some of the story’s iconic characters.
Originally posted by Beauty and the Beast co-producer Jack Morrissey, the stills are all part of the upcoming 25th anniversary re-release of the 1991 animated classic and depict the new rendition of the tale as old as time.
“Here’s a fine piece of concept art of Ewan McGregor as Lumiere and Ian McKellan as Cogsworth. These designs are close, but may not be final,” wrote Morrissey along with the photo, which has since been removed.
Morrissey also gave fans a look at the two men in Belle’s life, starting with Gaston (Luke Evans).
According to the producer, the image of Gaston comes from some B-roll footage from the “Gaston” musical number. If you look closely, you can also spot his trusty sidekick, LeFou (Josh Gad) just to the left of the crimson coat wearing muscle man.
For the Beast, Morrissey offered up a behind-the-scenes photo of actor Dan Stevens as Prince Adam in his human form. We’re guessing they’re waiting for the perfect moment to show us Belle’s prince in his beastly form!
The one thing we noticed about all the characters we got a first look at today was how much inspiration the live action filmmakers drew from Disney’s original animated version of the story. It’s really cool to see some of our favorites come to life, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the cast looks like as Disney keeps rolling out more footage from the film!
Beauty and the Beast is set to hit theaters on March 17, 2017 and the 25th anniversary edition of the 1991 animated classic is available on Sept. 20.
