Turns out that director James Gunn had the opportunity to guard a completely different galaxy, one that resides in the DC Universe.

During a recent Facebook chat, the Guardians of the Galaxy director opened up to fans about a variety of superhero topics. His favorite line of dialogue? “We are Groot.” Would he like to have any of the Avengers appear in Guardians 2? Nope!

But perhaps most interesting was the director’s answer when asked about potentially directing a DC film, because as it turns out, Gunn has been approached to do exactly that but turned down the offer.

“I’ve had opportunities to make DC films, but I haven’t said yes to anything, and not sure I would at this time,” Gunn said. “I’ve talked before about which projects appeal to me the most IF I was into making one, and it’s always Shazam and Metal Men and Swamp Thing and Johan Hex and a few other DC IPs I’ve enjoyed for a great deal of my life.”

While Gunn’s allegiance remains with the Marvel, his plans after Guardians 2 remain a mystery. The director recently tweeted that he hasn’t decided what he’s doing after the sequel and when asked during his Q&A if he’d return to the MCU after telling the Guardians story, Gunn replied in the negative.

“Probably not, no,” Gunn said. “I’m not sure what’s going on next but IF I chose to stay in the MCU I’d be playing solely with cosmic characters related to the Guardians-verse.”
