The highly anticipated Blade Runner sequel has just added another big name its impressive cast!
Variety reports that Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto has officially signed on to star in the follow-up to the 1982 movie. He’ll be joining already announced cast member Ryan Gosling.
Plot details are being kept firmly under wraps for the upcoming sequel, so there’s no word yet on who Leto will play, or what his role in the film will be.
In fact, plot details are currently so secretive that Gosling even joked that there might be dire consequences if he gave any of the film’s secrets away in a recent interview with EW.
“I’m looking around as you say that, because I think there’s a sniper up there in the corner if I say too much,” joked Gosling during an interview with EW Radio back in May. “I’m a huge fan of the original and thought— just as a fan of it— that Ridley and Harrison wanted to extend that story was exciting. Then to be asked to be a part of that and help tell that story in some way felt like such a great opportunity.
Gosling may be keeping mum on the details, but one thing we do know is that the sequel is set to take place several decades after the events that occur in the original Blade Runner film, which was based off of author Philip K. Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Leto and Gosling are set to star opposite Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, and Harrison Ford, all of whom have signed on to star in the untitled sequel.
With such a stellar cast, we’re definitely looking forward to checking the Blade Runner sequel out when it premieres!
The untitled Blade Runner sequel is set to hit theaters on October 6, 2017.
