Warning: Suicide Squad spoilers abound!
One major plus about the comic book movie realm is that you can never quite dismiss the return of a character, even if they’re thought to be deceased. That notion could be comforting to fans still reeling from the apparent death of Jay Hernandez’s El Diablo in Suicide Squad.
Despite mixed reviews, the film went on to shatter Guardians of the Galaxy’s highest-grossing opening weekend for an August release record, so a Suicide Squad sequel is certainly not out of the question. During a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Hernandez hinted that his character could potentially return if Suicide Squad 2 becomes a reality.
“Of course there is [a chance he could return],” Hernandez told Comicbook.com. “I’m not saying anything, just that it’s a possibility.”
The actor also revealed that while he initially didn’t know about the fate of his character, Diablo’s death added some emotional weight to the end of the story.
“I didn’t know that’s how the end was going to happen, early on,” Hernandez continued. “For me, it was important to make it good, make it impressive, and go out in a blaze of glory. Ultimately, I think it worked to give it some meaning, some emotional weight to the end of the story.”
What do you think? Would you like to see Jay Hernandez’s Diablo return in a potential Suicide Squad sequel?
