No need to “figure it out on the way,” the creator of Lizzie McGuire is finally returning to the Disney Channel with an all-new series!
The Disney Channel has ordered a family comedy from Terri Minsky, the mind behind the beloved early ’00s show that launched the career of Hilary Duff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series, titled Andi Mack, revolves around a young girl (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) whose life is thrown into disarray on the eve of her 13th birthday when her moody sister Bex (Lilan Bowden) moves back home.
Premiering in 2001, Lizzie McGuire aired 65 episodes as well as producing a feature film on its way to becoming one of the most popular Disney Channel Originals of all time.
“As a writer and creative force, Terri Minsky has a one of a kind voice that resonates with our audience, making them laugh and cry in the same scene with dialogue and storytelling that always feels honest,” said Disney Channels Worldwide executive VP of original programming Adam Bonnett in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “When Terri created Lizzie McGuire, she helped put Disney Channel on the map with a character that our audience could identify with and we look forward to introducing Andi to a new generation of kids and tweens.”
Lauren Tom, who famously portrayed Ross’ girlfriend Julie on Friends, will play Andi and Bex’s mother, Celia Mack.
