It looks like there’s going to be a new autobot in town when Transformers: The Last Knight hits the big screen.
The official Transformers Twitter account gave fans a first peek at the steely newcomer on Wednesday (Aug. 4).
“Hot Rod: This is no cartoon. #transformers,” tweeted the account along with two photos of the new autobot.
According to his stats, Hot Rod stands at over 16 feet and has a bit of a history with everyone’s favorite Bumblebee. The pair are apparently brother-in-arms. The similarities end there, however. According to the description, Hot Rod’s personality is described as brash and slightly arrogant. He’s also described as a protector.
In the original Transformers animated film, Hot Rod eventually becomes Radius Prime after Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus both meet their demise.
It’ll be interesting to see if director Michael Bay follows that story line with the live-action franchise now that Hot Rod is officially set to be introduced into the mix.
Set to premiere in 2017, the fifth installment of the series is set to bring back actors Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson, all of whom will be reprising their roles from the previous films.
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23, 2017..
