Nashies far and wide were floored when they heard that ABC had decided to pull the plug on Nashville and now, we’re finally finding out what convinced the studio to make the move.
Speaking to reporters at TCA, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey explained the thought process behind the decision to nix the country music drama starring Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere from the lineup after season 4. At the end of the day, Dungey said it all came down to finances.
“Nashville I personally really loved, so for me personally [the cancellation] was a heartbreak,” said Dungey according to Deadline. “But there were challenges, there were a lot of things to consider. We had a lot of conversations with [Nashville producers] Lionsgate TV and ABC Studios, but it became clear it would be something we could work out.”
The good news is, Nashville has found its new home with CMT, something Dungey is “thrilled” about and we know she’s not the only one.
CMT has officially ordered 22 episodes of the music drama, and after this past season’s shocking, cliffhanger-filled finale, we’re all taking comfort in the fact that our questions about the fate of our favorite characters won’t go unanswered.
