Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has yet to hit theaters, but that hasn’t stopped Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and director David Yates from making headway on the second installment in the film series!
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has confirmed that fans can expect the second Fantastic Beasts film to arrive in two years’ time on November 16, 2018. The third and final installment of the trilogy is expected two years later in 2020.
In the statement announcing the release date, Warner Bros. offered a bit more insight as to what fans can expect from the sequel. According to the studio, the next film is set to “move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”
We’re definitely interested to discover what WB means when they say Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his friends will have to “decide on their allegiances.” It’ll be interesting to see if this idea of picking sides is something that occurs in New York City, where the first film is based, or if Newt and the gang will wind up entangled in something that forces them to pick sides on a global scale.
The first film in the Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them series hits theaters on November 18.
