It’s hard to believe, but it’s already been four years since the fan-favorite WB/CW series One Tree Hill ended its run. Though some might say it hasn’t been long enough to start thinking about spin-offs or revivals, any true OTH fan knows it’s never too soon to start planning a trip back to Tree Hill.
But where do the original stars stand on a follow-up series? People’s Choice sat down with the cast at the Inside OTH convention in Wilmington, NC this weekend to find out.
When we caught up with Chad Michael Murray, also known as the dreamy Lucas Scott, we asked for his thoughts on a spinoff featuring the kids from the show all grown up — as it turned out, he was surprised it didn’t already exist.
“You would think, seeing as what they’re doing with all of the other shows,” said Murray alluding to recent revivals like Gilmore Girls. “Down the line they’ll probably do something, I’m sure.”
Though Murray predicts a One Tree Hill spinoff isn’t too far away, it doesn’t mean he would necessarily have the time to appear on it. The actor, who just finished filming his new CMT series Million Dollar Quartet and just released his western flick Outlaws and Angels, said he’s “just busy working.”
Yes, it would be beyond amazing to have Murray back in an OTH spinoff, but, luckily, with such a large ensemble cast, the spinoff possibilities are endless. While one could focus on the grown-up versions of the characters’ kids, another could revolve around the couple fans fell in love with during the last three seasons of the series: Quinn James (Shantel VanSanten) and Clay Evans (Robert Buckley).
Someone who happens to like the idea of the latter spinoff is VanSanten herself.
“Oh my gosh, I would want to know what they’re gonna do with us,” VanSanten told People’s Choice at the convention. “But, I mean, I would love to work with Rob [Buckley] again. I think it would be a blast.”
VanSanten added that “it would be fun” to do a One Tree Hill revival “if everybody signed onto it, even Peyton [Hilarie Burton] and Lucas [Chad Michael Murray].” We couldn’t agree more!
“I mean, they’re doing Gilmore Girls,” VanSanten said. “Like after you leave enough time, and there’s a whole new generation now because of Netflix that have watched it that I feel everybody’s itching question is, ‘What happens next?'”
Well, we don’t know exactly what’s going to happen next for our favorite Tree Hill residents, but we’ll keep enjoying these reunions while we make our wish list of OTH spinoffs we’d like to see happen.
