Fans aren’t the only ones reeling from the news that the final installment in the Divergent series, Ascendant, might become a TV movie.

The star of the franchise, Shailene Woodley, was caught off guard, too.

According to Deadline, Woodley revealed she was on a flight when reports surfaced that Ascendant could be skipping a theatrical release.

“Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened and I landed, and I’m like ‘Whoa, what’s going on?!’” said Woodley while speaking to press at Comic-Con on Thursday (July 20), as reported by Deadline.

Earlier this week, Variety exclusively broke the news that Lionsgate was planning to make Ascendant into a TV movie, and use it to launch a new spinoff series based off author Veronica Roth’s dystopian saga. The report set off speculation about whether Divergent stars — including Woodley and Theo James — would stay on with the franchise to film the final installment if it moves ahead as a TV movie. Woodley, who plays Tris in the films, touched on whether or not she’d continue to portray the character during her remarks at Comic-Con, but didn’t give away much, simply saying she needed to “find out what the details are.”

Though the Divergent series started out strong — with the first film raking in $151 million at the box office, 2015’s Allegiant grossed only $66 million domestic.  Ascendant, the fourth and final chapter in the series, was set to hit theaters next year.
