Mr. and Mrs. Smith is famously known for bringing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jollie together on the big screen, but the casting almost turned out very differently.

Singer Gwen Stefani revealed during a recent interview with Howard Stern that not only had she auditioned for the role of Mrs. Smith, but she also came very close to landing the part!

“I feel like I almost got it,” Stefani revealed to Stern according to Us Weekly. “I went to a bunch [of auditions].”

Stefani also opened up about the casting process for Mr. and Mrs. Smith saying, “It was very competitive.”

Somehow, we’re not surprised to hear Stefani was up against some stiff competition. Aside from Jolie, who eventually got the part, it’s well known that actresses Nicole Kidman and Catherine Zeta-Jones were also among those being considered for the role.

“I wanted to do [the movie], but I wanted to do music more,” explained the This Is What The Truth Feels Like singer.

Considering Stefani’s heart first lies with music, it sounds like things turned out for the best in the end when casting directors chose to go with Jolie instead!
