As we inch closer to the premiere of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, it’s time to meet the mastermind who assembles the team of renegade miscreants: Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. A new teaser for the film, aptly titled “Puppet Master,” introduces fans to the straw that stirs Suicide Squad’s chaotic cocktail of mayhem — and trust us when we say, she’s very intimidating.

“Getting people to act against their own self-interest is what I do for a living,” Davis steely states in the recently released clip. While the latest teaser features the prerequisite violence and explosions we have come to expect from Suicide Squad promos, we also discover what some of Waller’s cohorts really think about their boss.

“That is just a mean lady,” Will Smith’s Deadshot says.

Meanwhile, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag confesses to Waller: “They warned me about you. I didn’t believe the stories.”

“Nobody does,” is Waller’s stone cold reply.

“Everyone has a weakness, and a weakness can be leverage.”

Since previous trailers focused on the titular squad or cameo appearances by a certain Dark Knight of Gotham City, it’s nice to have a promo that shines a light on Davis’ character.

Also starring Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Suicide Squad opens nationwide on August 5.
