The nominees for this year’s 68th annual Emmmy Awards were revealed on Thursday (July 14) and naturally, there’s a lot to be excited about for fans of television!
FX’s limited series, The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and HBO’s ever popular Game of Thrones quickly emerged as this year’s frontrunners. The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story earned a whopping 22 nominations, including multiple nods in the categories for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Limited Series. Even so, the breakout series’ impressive number of nods was no match for Game of Thrones, which topped the list of nominees with 23 nominations.
While many series and actors alike are returning to vie for Emmy glory, this year’s nominations also features a slew of first time nominees. On the comedy side, Aziz Ansari (Master of None), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) are all celebrating first time nominations.
After the nominees were announced live from Los Angeles, many celebs took to Twitter to share their excitement about being nominated at the 2016 Emmy Awards. Check out some of the best reactions below:
When we finished the incredible journey of creating this groundbreaking project, The People v. OJ Simpson, we all knew we’d created something incredibly wonderful and special together! It was an opportunity of a lifetime to work with such a dream cast and to portray a man like Johnnie Cochran. To receive an Emmy nomination today is the continuation of this phenomenal journey and is indeed a true blessing and honor. I am overjoyed that my wife, my mother, and children are here to enjoy this moment with me. Although the disease ALS has taken my mother’s ability to speak, I see joy and pride written all over her face right now. Being surrounded by my family – at this very moment – means everything to me!
