For 110 episodes, the oddball antics emanating from Greendale Community College entertained the loyal Human Being fanbase, but what about the much-publicized movie? During a recent appearance on Larry King Now, Community creator Dan Harmon opened up about his thoughts on a potential Community movie and why he’s waiting to write it.
“If I pull out a typewriter right now and write a Community movie just for my own heart and mind, then I have to go through the heartbreak and agony of finding out which of the people are gonna show up to make it,” Harmon told the talk show host.
The cultishly adored sitcom went through a number of casting changes during its six season run. Original cast members Chevy Chase and Donald Glover exited the series at the end of season four and the middle of season five, respectively, and Yvette Nicole Brown did not return as a series regular for the final season.
“On the other hand, if I wait for everyone to line up and say, ‘We’re all out of work and ready to do a Community movie,’ well, I guess that’s a bad idea, too,” Harmon continued. “It’ll make a great movie. It’ll happen.”
In other words, a movie will happen…but only if the original cast gets on board.
For that, Harmon may have to wait awhile considering stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Ken Jeong, are all currently starring on various sitcoms, while Alison Brie is a burgeoning movie star.
One person who agrees with Harmon about a Community movie is Danny Pudi, who recently told People’s Choice that he would “love to do a Community movie.”
“Anything’s possible,” Pudi told us at the NBC Upfronts. “…. I think all of us in the cast are like ready to rock and roll for a movie. Play some more paintball; that would be amazing. So it’s just like this: I’m just waiting for someone to say ‘Yes, we’re ready to go.’ So… fingers crossed.”
What do you think? Are you interested in watching a Community movie?
