Netflix is gearing up to get lost in space!

The streaming goliath announced on Wednesday (June 29) that they have ordered 10 one-hour episodes of an updated version of Irwin Allen’s classic ‘1960s television series Lost in Space. The show will revolve around the Robinson family, a group in crisis after being stranded in space light years from their intended destination.

Described as “equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure,” the Robinsons find themselves battling a strange new alien environment as well as their own personal demons in a survival story for the ages.

“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience,” Netflix Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland said in a statement. “The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”

While the original series aired on CBS between 1965 and 1968, a feature film adapted from the show was released in 1998. With a cast that featured Matt LeBlanc, William Hurt, Heather Graham, and Lacey Chabert, the movie went on to gross over $136 million at the box office.

Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot is scheduled to debut in 2018.
