It looks like Supergirl has found its Superman in the form of actor Tyler Hoechlin!

Deadline reports that the Teen Wolf vet has officially been tapped to portray Clark Kent when Supergirl moves over to The CW for season 2.

Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg released a statement regarding the casting news where he had nothing but high praise for Hoechlin.

“Greg [Bertlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said Kreisberg about Hoechlin, who portrayed Derek Hale on MTV’s Teen Wolf from 2011 to 2014. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.

When the CW announced casting was currently under way to find their newest incarnation of Superman, many were hoping Smallville star Tom Welling would be tapped to reprise his role as Clark Kent. If he had been cast, it would have been a nice full circle, but despite the fact that we won’t be seeing Welling don the iconic red cape for Supergirl, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what Hoechlin brings to the role.

Supergirl season 2 premieres on The CW in the fall.
