Get ready for a major shake up to your Instagram feed! In March the popular social media app announced that they were looking into implementing an algorithm that would prioritize the posts that show up on users’ feeds based on what they think you’d like to see. Now, it looks as though the company has decided to roll out the feature to the masses.

After testing the new, algorithm based timeline, Instagram announced via a statement last week that they have officially decided to move forward with the changes to the masses. According to the social media site, the new update, which is similar to Facebook’s News Feed algorithm, orders the posts in your feed so “you’ll see the moments you care about first.”

“On average, people miss 70 percent of their feeds. It’s become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share as Instagram has grown. Over the past few months, we brought this new way of ordering posts to a portion of the community, and we found that people are liking photos more, commenting ore and generally engaging with the community in a more active way,” explained Instagram in a lengthy post.

The announcement continued by explaining the benefits of moving to the new algorithm.

“With this new ordering, you won’t miss your favorite band’s video after the concert, even if it took place across the world in a different time zone,” reads the announcement. “And no matter how many accounts you follow, you should see your best friend’s latest posts.”

Of course, despite listing the pros of a new and improved feed, Instagram has still received a slew of backlash from users who would rather the app remain the way it’s always been. While some users are simply interested in seeing everything in real time, others are worried that they’ll still miss the posts they’d care about seeing. If the latter resonates particularly with you, then there’s always the option of turning on notifications for your favorite Instagram accounts.

Regardless of whether you agree with the changes or not, it looks like we’ll all have to get used to Instagram’s new and improved features now!
